Since 2011, I have used vintage fashion pieces as a medium for expression, attempting to bring new value to them through print and dye techniques. The most recent artworks involved vintage white linen shifts from Europe in the 1920s, on top of which we printed letters and photos from a similar era. We used a technique of heat pressing foil onto the dresses with special printouts of the photos. By doing so, each printout became a one-time silkscreen, where each photo’s landscape and letter’s handwriting effectively got traced onto the dresses. With vintage clothing each having a distinct ‘memory’ of it’s past owners, we layered another piece of memory (through Photos and Letters) onto it. The wearer of the new piece becomes an anonymous point that bridges the past, present, and future.
